Monks, Somali immigrants and Army veterans? I thought it was going to be an adventure but it was really just a story of a woman fleeing Somalia, traveling through America while trying to avoid ICE, on her way to Canada.

It was okay...

Oof... I hated this book from the first few pages. I will never understand the glorification of infidelity. Cheating is such gross behavior and it was super cringy to read an entire book about the selfishness of these two people.

I can't recommend this book.

This was a slow moving plot that picked up in middle/end. I loved the plot twists but I was almost too bored with it by that point.

I would recommend this to someone looking for a mild mystery.

Goodness me... I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this series! The character development was simply beautiful and redemptive, often savage yet loving. It was a spicy romance bursting with sensuousness and filled with adventure, intrigue and betrayal.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Literally anyone.

This was a beautifully strange story, filled with otherworldly traditions from different cultures, fey and family. I enjoyed it quite a lot but it was immediately apparent that it was a translated book because it read a little off to me. Regardless of the difference in speech, it was a very interesting kind of fairy tale.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a Russian Fairy Tale!

Three years ago, for Jolabokaflod my husband bought me the first book in this trilogy. Then two years ago he got me the second one. Then finally, this year he bought the last/final book. It was a great series and I really enjoyed the storyline and character development.

I would absolutely recommend this series to anyone interested in fantasy/fey stories.

This was my first experience reading a Colleen Hoover book and so much of it resonated with me. It was a stark reminder of how there are so many different sides to experiences. We're all living different, unique experiences. Our worlds being seen through vastly different filters. This book was beautiful, and tragic. I loved every sentence ❤

I would recommend this book to anyone...

Susanna Kearsley is one of absolute favorite authors, and I still haven't met a book of hers that I didn't adore. Historic fiction is my jam but this author puts such a unique spin on that history. I love it! These characters were enthralling, and even with the jumps back and forth in time, the story was appealing and remained attractive till the end.

I recommend this book to anyone!

New York 1910, was no place for the fiercely independent woman. But this is the story of several... Without giving too much away, I will say that this is a story based in fact about two sisters and their deep love and loyalty to one another.

Historical Fiction, fit for any reader.

Hmmmm what can I say about this book... I enjoyed the storyline, which the authors perfectly set up for a sequel. I enjoyed the characters and felt like some of them needed larger roles. However, the main character was not likable at all, I actually found her personality to be overbearing, and arrogant. And if I read the word patriarch one more time, ugh, it was just a bit much.

Sadly, I can't say I would recommend this book...

However I did enjoy A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah Maas and I would place this novel in the same bracket. So if you're a fan of Sarah Maas, or even of some of Keri Lakes other works, (Master of Salt and Bones (loved/reviewed), or The Isle of Sin and Shadows (also loved/reviewed)) add this to your tbr!

I have never been so enraged by a book before.
This novel is vile.
Poorly written.
Encourages rape culture.
I would never recommend this book to anyone and I'm sad I invested 328 pages of my time on this crap. I would be shocked if this was in fact written by a woman and not some pathetic, doughy, single, male.

Stalking, and sexual assault don't create a good foundation for a love story.

Oof... Anyone that follows me, knows how difficult it is for me to hate a book. This book was terrible. I hated the choppy flow, how it jumped from present to past and then changed character views. It felt rushed and forced. The characters weren't very developed and they weren't very dimensional.

I also loathe knowing any authors political views, regardless of what they are... Politics are so ugly and divisive, I read to stay away from them.

It has never taken me this long to read a book... I loved the authors writing style and the easy flow of her ideas. But this was the saddest story I've ever read and it only got worse. My heart feels heavy after finally finishing this book. This is the first of Ms. Hoffman's books I've ever had the pleasure of reading, but I will say maybe this is just her style?
