Updates to this new edition include How-to’s for measuring countable features of any written work A rubric for analyzing the complexity of both literary and informational texts Classroom scenarios that show the difference between a healthy struggle and frustration The authors’ latest thinking on teacher modeling, close reading, scaffolded small group reading, and independent reading

Let students struggle productively. Yes! #TeachersofLitsy

CoffeeK8 I love Fisher‘s work! 6y
SleepyDragon Curious ... how is struggle defined? Does this mean challenging reading is no longer being assigned? 6y
BookishMarginalia @NeesyBeth Basically, students should be taught that learning is intended to be hard work and that it is okay to feel uncomfortable in the process of figuring things out. Too much scaffolding and support removes that productive struggle that is integral to true learning and mastery. 6y
Bookworm83 I love this so much! This sums up my teaching philosophy. I feel like too much emphasis is placed on making sure reading is engaging. Obviously, as teachers we want our students to love reading, but the reality is that real life reading is difficult and students need to be okay with the struggle. (edited) 6y
