At the Spire, a sprawling mountain of metal and stone in the middle of a radioactive desert, Sha, the Commander of the City Watch, is tasked with keeping the hodgepodge of forgotten technology and new biology safe. When a string of grisly murders is committed just as a new Baroness of the Spire is about to be sworn in, Sha will have to find the killer and bring them to justice.

So...I enjoyed this comic which is often described as being heavily influenced by Miyazaki which I definitely see. As I read it though, I was also reminded of Senlin Ascends & Perdido Street Station—perhaps an odd, seemingly random collection of parallels/influences but I have to say it works. This is a creative, inventive story filled with murder & mayhem, love & hate, discrimination & prejudice, & powerful secrets. A good read.

A distant calamity has left humanity shattered into dozens of forms, with the 'pure' humans living in a spire above the noxious fumes. Shå is the Captain of the police force, but she has abilities that make her impure, but good at her job. A series of murders threaten to expose old secrets, and call into question who is human, and who is 'pure'. Both artwork and dialog are outstanding in this GN.

This was interesting once I got into it (took me an issue to get into the flow it)... good world building and character development. A few surprises. Great art. I'd categorize it as fantasy noir. I recommend.

If you are a Saga fan this comic is definitely for you: Fantasy mystery with OMG ending 😱😱😱(so unpredictable that chock is guaranteed ) Murders, cool creatures, LGBT 🏳️‍🌈, beautiful art, all issues in one - everything that you need to enjoy this graphic novel. The only thing that bothers me that meaning of created syfy words was not explained.

Eyelit Look who is trendsetting, now! I just picked this up from the library! 😃 7y

This was a fun surprise to come across! I love the art. The world building is smart and layered. Looking forward to more of the series.
