Tiger is a very lucky kid: she has a monster living under her bed. Every night, Tiger and Monster play games until it's time for lights out. Of course, Monster would never try to scare Tiger--that's not what best friends do.But Monster needs to scare someone...it's a monster, after all. So while Tiger sleeps, Monster scares all of her nightmares away. Thanks to her friend, Tiger has nothing but good dreams. But waiting in the darkness is a nightmare so big and mean that Monster can't fight it alone. Only teamwork and a lot of bravery can chase this nightmare away.In this charming graphic novel for young readers, cartoonist Emily Tetri proves that unlikely best friends can be an unbeatable team, even agianst the scariest monsters.

This graphic novel, nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Publication for Early Readers (up to age 8), is delightful. Tiger really does have a monster in her room but Monster would never scare her—that would be mean. No, Monster scares Tiger‘s nightmares away until one day, Monster gets scared. They have to work together to overcome their fear and banish the nightmares. A wonderfully illustrated, well told story. A great addition to the library.

Tiger has always relied on her friend and protector, the monster under her bed, to fend off her nightmares but when monster encounters a nightmare so terrifying even he can‘t defeat it, Tiger needs to rethink her relationship with monster to support her friend.

This cute graphic novel/picture book made it on my radar when it was awarded a Geisel Award honor. I can see why! The art is great and the story is sweet and relatable.

MarriedtoMrT I just wanted to note, too, that I completely misgendered Tiger and it gave me pause. Why did I assume Tiger was a boy? I think it‘s because she wasn‘t given a skirt or bow or any “girl” clothes and she enjoyed playing pretty physically with monster (for example, her fighter stance on the cover). But I am so happy she was portrayed exactly as she is and I just really need to work on my assumptions. 6y

This is a cute picture book/juvenile graphic novel about facing your fears and learning that nightmares have no hold over you. The art style is super cute and I love the designs for the monsters and nightmares. It's a great book to read with young children who may have trouble sleeping due to their own nightmares.

5⭐️ Simply Amazing. Tiger has a best friend that everyone thinks is imaginary, but Tiger knows better. And his best friend is amazing. He keeps watch at night so Tiger gets a great night‘s sleep. He frightens the nightmares away. The story is simple for even the youngest child, but it is the illustrations that make the story so great. The illustrator does an amazing job making some nightmares seem nice and easy, and others big bad menances.
