I LOVED Under the Never Sky and these characters, and yet somehow I could never get into the final book. Fast forward 5+ years and I‘m in a *mood* so I downloaded the audio. Even though I‘m not sold on the narrator I can‘t believe I let these characters go for so long! That said, I decided to see if I could jog my memory a bit so I borrowed the second (tagged) book and skimmed it. Ugh. THE FEELS. ❤️💔

Littens on Twitter, have you voted yet on this? The replies are awesome and it got Colin Firth trending (which alarmed many 😂).

I‘m team Macfayden by a nose but I‘d pick Richard Armitage in North and South over either Darcys in a hot second.

JenlovesJT47 I love them both but I have a soft spot for the 2005 version. ❤️ 2w
TheBookAddict The second one...I must confess I haven‘t watched the version with the one on the left. 😅 but I did have a bit of a crush on the one on the right after I watched the movie. Sorry, I‘m terrible with actors‘ names. 😅🤷🏽‍♀️ 2w

Texreader I haven‘t seen the version with Firth. So MacFadyen it is. I loved that movie. 2w
TracyReadsBooks Richard Armitage is spectacular in North and South! If I had to pick a Darcy, I‘d pick Firth. In truth though, the movie travels with me on my iPad while the six part BBC series is my go-to at home. I really like both of them. 2w
BarkingMadRun Colin Firth, absolutely. I prefer a few of the other movie actors, but Darcy and Elizabeth from the BBC are my faves. 2w
Chrissyreadit I‘m not picky.... 2w
Laughterhp I‘ve never watch the BBC version, so I have to go with MacFadyen. 2w
Ddzmini 52 MacFadyen 😍🙏 2w
mdemanatee 29 McFayden—though I also have a soft spot for the Lost in Austen Wickham who also played Septimus in the last Broadway production of Arcadia. (edited) 2w
MarriedtoMrT @TheBookAddict Typically I am too! I didn‘t know Macfayden‘s name until the Twitter pole but I voted for him. 😂 2w
MarriedtoMrT @Texreader The Firth‘s a classic. I hope you get a chance to see it one day. 2w
MarriedtoMrT @TracyReadsBooks He really is! I distinctly remember watching North and South for the first time and his performance is part of the reason. I do love the BBC version more overall, I just kind of like Macfayden‘s more broody Darcy. TBH, it‘s been awhile since I‘ve seen either! 2w
MarriedtoMrT @mdemanatee I forgot about Lost in Austen! I watched it in snippets on YouTube before it was released in the US. I may have to revisit it. 2w
MarriedtoMrT @Chrissyreadit 😂🤣❤️ 2w
janeycanuck I would leave my SO for Firth‘s Darcy in the blink of an eye. 2w

I have some conflicting feelings on this one. It was an interesting and layered ghost story, perfect for this time of year, with complex family and friend dynamics and an exploration of moral ambiguity. Still, I feel somewhat disconnected from the story overall. This will not be the powerhouse Eliza was (which, tbf, I didn‘t finish) but it is definitely worth the read.

3.5 ⭐️

Please enjoy the picture of me in my most natural habitat. 😂

More than a ghost story, this book has some zinger quotes and beautiful packaging. I love this map!

I know I am one of many saying the same thing but what is this fuckery? 🤯😤 I keep looking at the time stamp like, how can there be more? Why are there still so many hours? WHAT ELSE CAN HAPPEN???

The most telling thing for me is that when young Elizabeth is asked what she wants to be when she grows up she says a Billionaire. Despite what I‘ve seen in interview clips, it was never about helping or saving people. It was about accumulating power.

bookandcat I loved this audiobook lol. I went down the biggest Theranos rabbit hole after reading it. All the documentaries and all of the podcasts 😂 did a deep dive into trying to figure out what her original voice sounded like😂😂 4mo

I saw @MaggieCarr compare this MC to Eleanor Oliphant and I had to give it a chance! I really enjoyed it and couldn‘t wait to let all you Littens know about this quirky, quick read. Then I looked under the title and saw all the many, MANY reviews. I‘m late to the party! This is what happens when I‘m not on Litsy much for several months. Anyway, I don‘t have much to add to the reviews already out there. It was really good! 😏

I binged the first half and only stopped because I had to go to work then I stalled on the second half and it took me a month to finish. Part of it was me (I was rear-ended on my way to work after that morning) but part was the flimsy fake dating pretense and the reluctance of both MCs to talk about things that really mattered and then the final conflict and resolution. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I still enjoyed it. Tessa does great banter and hot sexy-times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was good but not my favorite LL. I liked the setup of the friend trio. I liked both Naomi and Oliver. I liked how Oliver‘s father‘s Alzheimer‘s played a huge part in his life. The banter was still on point. But the relationship progress was slow and involved A LOT of waffling on both sides. It made the inevitable finale seem kind of rushed. Also, despite the title, while there was certainly chemistry it was surprisingly light on passion. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

My #top6reads for 2019 so far.

I tagged under Words in Deep Blue because I waited SO LONG for that book to come out then was afraid/not in the mood to read it for several years after publication but I finally read it and I loved it and I LOVE Cath Crowley.

I love Julianna and Lucy for contemporary romances, Gross Anatomy is hilarious, and Technically and Evvie hit me over the head this weekend and out of a months long mini-slump.

Melissa_J I‘ve happy to see The Austen Playbook on your list. I bought it recently but haven‘t read it yet. 5mo

Littens, I loved this one. Told all in text (I love alternate formats!) with a bit of mistaken identity and some family and friend drama, this had a sprinkle of all the things that make a great teen contemporary. And on top of that, it had some great representation and frank conversations of sexuality. Some of the nerd speak did go over my head but that didn‘t detract from my enjoyment since the language overall felt authentic. Highly recommend!

I found this to be an engaging and sometimes snarky history of feminism and the women‘s movement. It included biographies without feeling chunky and overviews of the main movements. Race and class are acknowledged but I do think it could have benefited from some more direct discussion of intersectionality. Overall, a definite pick.

Nute Informative review! Sometimes I don‘t mind a simplified presentation of a large platform issue. Is it a graphic novel? 5mo

I struggle with the idea of peaceful vs non-peaceful protests so this was a good reminder for me that throughout history people were frustrated enough to agitate for the change they wanted to see.

Bright, graphic illustrations of influential figures, a quote from them, and an accompanying brief bio. I wish there had been more women in his first set but I think he made up for it later on. While not in depth profiles, there is enough to get a sense of the person and spark curiosity and, possibly, further research.

A pick but almost a so-so. Thea Harrison is one of those authors I *should* like but struggle with. I like her worlds (world? Does she have multiple?), characters, and storylines but her books are just so darn long! There‘s a lot of repetition and what is with the changing perspective from paragraph to paragraph? It was a great opposites attract and a super alpha male if that‘s your thing. I both read and listened to it depending on my mood.

I read this months ago via #netgalley and now it‘s out in the wild! Here‘s part of my original review:

“As usual, I was immediately sucked right in. JLB knows how to start a book...For me, it slowed a bit in the middle. The conclusion, while satisfying, was a bit rushed and there are some unanswered questions and under-explored resolutions that leave room for a series. I love her writing but this wasn‘t her strongest.”

post image
Pickpick

Tiger has always relied on her friend and protector, the monster under her bed, to fend off her nightmares but when monster encounters a nightmare so terrifying even he can‘t defeat it, Tiger needs to rethink her relationship with monster to support her friend.

This cute graphic novel/picture book made it on my radar when it was awarded a Geisel Award honor. I can see why! The art is great and the story is sweet and relatable.

MarriedtoMrT I just wanted to note, too, that I completely misgendered Tiger and it gave me pause. Why did I assume Tiger was a boy? I think it‘s because she wasn‘t given a skirt or bow or any “girl” clothes and she enjoyed playing pretty physically with monster (for example, her fighter stance on the cover). But I am so happy she was portrayed exactly as she is and I just really need to work on my assumptions. 9mo
