This is an interesting look at the shifting realities of our world, as China looks for interactions with other countries while the US and EU grow more isolationist. While it reads as a bit too much of a polemic about 45 (understandably, to a degree), it is nonetheless an important way of looking at our changing world, and a great read for #ReadingAsia2021. I‘m using this for #Turkmenistan, but it could be used for many countries.

An interesting adjunct to Frankopan‘s ‘The Silk Roads‘. I was disappointed with this book, which seemed to have been written in great haste, with virtually no editorial attention. He makes intriguing, convincing points, but lets his political prejudices (many of which I share) to intrude to a disruptive extent. See my Goodreads review at: www.goodreads.com/review/show/2622857705. #book #books #politics #history #silkroads #china #asia #centralasia

zsuzsanna_reads That's what I heard from others as well. It's a shame because the subject would have interested me otherwise. 6y
Eyejaybee The book was still interesting, but I felt that the political bias just took some of the enjoyment away. 6y
