The Hotel Neversink
The Hotel Neversink | Adam O'Fallon Price
5 posts | 3 read | 5 to read
Thirty-one years after workers first broke ground, the magnificent Hotel Neversink in the Catskills finally opens to the public. Then a young boy disappears. This mysterious vanishing--and the ones that follow--will brand the lives of three generations. At the root of it all is Asher Sikorky, the ambitious and ruthless patriarch whose purchase of the hotel in 1931 set a haunting legacy into motion. His daughter Jeanie Sikorsky sees the Hotel Neversink into its most lucrative era, but also its darkest. Decades later, Asher's grandchildren grapple with the family's heritage in their own ways: Len fights to keep the failing, dilapidated hotel alive, and Alice sets out to finally uncover the murderer's identity.Told by an unforgettable chorus of Sikorsky family members--a matriarch, a hotel maid, a traveling comedian, the hotel detective, and many others--The Hotel Neversink is the gripping portrait of a Jewish family in the Catskills over the course of a century. With an unerring eye and with prose both comic and tragic, Adam O'Fallon-Price details one man's struggle for greatness, no matter the cost, and a long-held family secret that threatens to undo it all.

An article in the Liberty Leader, dated January 8, 1931, announced, in the breathless style of the times, 'Local Tycoon Does in Penniless Despair, Foley House to Be Pawned at Auction.'

December 10: Vera Something by Adam O‘Fallon Price.
Don‘t know if the story is published in the tagged book, but part of the story does takes place at that hotel.

We meet a 20-something man who has just met Vera Something. And then we see how this meeting affects him.

Pickpick

Interestingly structured and gloriously populated, The Hotel Neversink, tells us the story of the rise and fall of the titular Catskills resort over the course of decades, with echoes of the Overlook threaded throughout.

This could be seen as a series of linked short stories, but the sum is definitely more than the parts. I‘m looking forward to recommending this when it comes out in August.

Oh yay!

Requested this last night after our great book club meeting for The Grand Tour, explaining I wanted to consider it for our staff picks presentations in May. So happy PRH could come through right away!

Will be starting this ASAP. 📚❤️😊
