The Modern Library
The Modern Library: The 200 Best Novels in English Since 1950 | Colm Toibin, Carmen Callil
3 posts | 4 to read
For Colm Toibin and Carmen Callil there is no difference between literary and commercial writing - there is only the good novel: engrossing, inspirational, compelling. In their selection of the best 200 novels written since 1950, the editors make a case for the best and the best-loved works and argue why each should be considered a modern classic. Enlightening, often unexpected, and always engaging this tour through the world of fiction is full of surprises, forgotten masterpieces and a valuable guide to what to read next. Authors include: Agatha Christie, Henry Green, Frank Hardy, Georgette Heyer, J. D. Salinger, Ralph Ellison, Ernest Hemingway, Bernard Malamud, R. K. Yes, I‘m that person who heads off to a day long book festival...with a book...you know, just in case I can‘t find a book to read while I‘m there! 😂 I didn‘t touch the book but I did enjoy the donut & coffee. Great day of panels with a wonderful group of authors—of course, I utterly failed to get any pictures of them. Can‘t wait until next year & more talk about all things YA.
