Have I Ever Told You?
Have I Ever Told You? | Shani King
3 posts | 3 read
This little book holds the message of dignity that every child on this earth needs to hear: You are loved. You matter. You make me smile. You make me the happiest person in the world, just by being you. Have I ever told you that, for me, there is no one more special than you? That for me, you are the most special child in the world, and that I love you now and will love you forever? Have I ever told you that? Shani King wrote Have I Ever Told You? as a note to his children, to remind them that they are amazing in their individuality and that they have the power to choose who they want to be in this world. The illustrations create a masterful visual narrative: warm, witty, simple, profound, and as ferociously empowering as a childrens book can be.

#ThankfulThoughts Day 22: This book is a celebration of #RandomKindness, inclusivity, and love. I also like how the affirming message does not only lift up the young reader, but also empowers him or her to also lift up other people and to actively speak out when an injustice is happening. This RF is a lovely way to encourage your class or children! Each page starts off with “Have I ever told you?” and finishes with a statement that prompts readers to feel confident in themselves and their dreams. Love how this book is also geared toward EL‘s as it mentions how people of different backgrounds are ambassadors, Supreme Court justices, teachers, and many other noble professions! With the style of the book, it definitely calls for a RA!

DMoux http://shanimking.com/have-i-ever-told-you/ This link will take you to the author‘s website where you can share your own “Have I ever told you...” story! UDL 9.1 will be utilized to promote motivation to achieve goals. ESOL 3 will promote positive thinking and encouraging self talk! #ucflae3414su19 5y
Estradan Your resource would be a nice way to incorporate what they learned from the RA into action. Having student share their own story makes it more personal and they can hear about their peers own stories and help build relationships. 5y
DrSpalding What a beautiful message for a beautiful book. 9.1 works perfectly with the moral to the story. English learner strategy number three works well also! Nice alignment. 5y

I give it a 5⭐ to this one! I bought for my 4 year old to be read before bedtime and both of us absolutely loved it. It talks about dreams and pursuing anything you want to be in life but also talks about universal values like respect and tolerance, and the most important aspect is that they learn all this thru a kind of conversational story between mom and son... I highly recommend it for toddlers!
