Orchid Beach | Stuart Woods
4 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
New York Times bestselling author Stuart Woods delivers a riveting thriller that introduces an exciting addition to the pantheon of fictional sleuths. Forced into early retirement at thirty-seven, smart, attractive, and fiercely independent Major Holly Barker trades in her bars as a military cop for the badge of deputy chief of police in Orchid Beach, Florida. But below the sunny surface of this sleepy, well-to-do island town lies an evil that escalates into the cold-blooded murder of one of Holly's new colleagues. An outsider, Holly has little to go on for answers and no one to help her—except Daisy, a Doberman of exceptional intelligence and loyalty that becomes her companion and protector. The closer Holly gets to the truth, the more she knows that it'll take one smart dog with guts to sniff out this killer—before he can catch her first.

Enjoyable series opener. I‘m excited to read more about Holly Barker and her awesome dog Daisy

Ugh, why did Stuart Woods have to create a female protaganist that experiences the gamut of bad things that happen to women-sexual harassment & discrimination, & attempted rape. Plus, she seems to live on steak and alcohol. I finished the book, but that was only because the dog was my favorite character.

So my library has a LOT of books written by Stuart Woods. I've been working my way backwards through the library shelves, but was flabbergasted when every book on the next shelf was by him. Then I noticed the next shelf is the same. I've always given a literary sneer to his books, but it looks like I will read at least two. Hopefully, I change my mind about them. 🙄

ValerieAndBooks Why are those labels covering the titles? They could be on the very bottom where the publisher logo is instead. You are right he sure has a lot of books 😯 8y
BoldCityBooks I read the first two books and they were entertaining but kind of silly. He literally has sex with every female character in the book. I thought there was a chance I'd read this series but he has put out so many... 8y
