Fun fantasy read!
A fun, fast-reading, well-paced urban fantasy that starts with Lex discovering a crime that hits very close to home, and in turn leads her to learning about her unusual powers. There's an interesting political setup which adds depth to the world-building. Side characters are engaging too, and I cared what happened next. Recommended!
Just realized: pronouns are important! What happens at the end explains the weird pronouns conversation at the beginning! Well done, laying it out for me so well that I didn't even realize what had been set up until I had a sleep.
Well, already finished it. Delightful piece of UF candy. Characters I love, feel for, and totally understand. Lex being exactly what she ends up being has a bit of a 'chosen one' feel, but not enough to ruin the mood.
Mostly, I just want to find out what happens next!
Let me just read the first chapter or two...
*8 chapters later* ...oops. Well, this bodes well for the quality of this book?
A few of the military references are just wrong enough to make me twitchy, but at least not wrong enough to completely bounce me out.
Looks like an interesting UF character: a null, who weakens the powers of other paranormals, and who is in high demand as a result. Werewolves don't have to change on the full moon; vampires can go to the beach and get a tan.
An easy, well flowing read with a smart heroine who doesn't take crap from anyone. She does what she has to and doesn't apologize for it. It's great to see such a down to earth character.
