Invitation to Love
Invitation to Love: The Way of Christian Contemplation | Thomas Keating
3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
In the course of numerous workshops and retreats Father Keating is asked many questions regarding contemplative practice. How will it affect my life? Where does it lead us spiritually? What obstacles will I encounter along the way? How does it work? As Keating answers, this book is "an attempt to provide a road map, as it were, for the journay that begins when Centering Prayer is seriously undertaken...for a deepening relationship with God.">

Mehso-so

I finally finished this after reading it far too slowly over the course of a year! I started it with a Centering Prayer group at church, but we got off schedule & set it aside. Although overall it didn‘t really resonate with me, I‘m glad I finished. I had a hard time getting on board with the psychological vocabulary he uses about contemplation & I wonder if I‘d have gotten more out of it if he‘d used fewer technical terms for the same concepts.⤵️

BarbaraJean The last few chapters had some great applications to social justice, which I really appreciated, and I think I will still explore other books of his about Centering Prayer. This one just didn‘t seem like it was the best intro for me, though others may well have a different experience! 5y
MommyWantsToReadHerBook One of the ladies at my contemplative spirituality course is really into Thomas Keating and centering prayer, I admit I have read basically nothing on this though I would still like to. 5y
BarbaraJean @MommyWantsToReadHerBook On Centering Prayer, my pastor has recommended Basil Pennington, and I have a copy of Keating‘s Open Mind, Open Heart that I will read one of these days! 5y

This is where I left off last night for #13inthree, after I finished the final volume of Wheel of Time (🙌🏼 review forthcoming). Starting in again now with a couple chapters of the tagged book, for a discussion tonight!
