This was my recent treadmill ebook, and so good. The author is deep in student loan debt and works towards paying it down by taking hard jobs in remote Alaska and the like. After getting into Duke‘s grad school, decides to secretly live in a van on campus in order to avoid further debt. There‘s also a parallel story about his best friend who takes a job at a for-profit university and ends up testifying about their shady deals. Student loans suck!!

WarpedSweetness Student loans are awful! :-( 6y
Bookzombie Yes, they do suck! 6y
ValerieAndBooks @WarpedSweetness @Bookzombie college costs are ridiculous nowadays— I have two in college now and hate that they have loans, and we do too (Parent Plus) to help them out 😨😰! 6y

WarpedSweetness @ValerieAndBooks Oh my goodness!! Those Parent Plus are the worst!! College costs are so ridiculous. I want to go back, but I'm too afraid too. I used to work for a student loan for the DOE and...meh, no words. It was awful. 6y
WarpedSweetness I would like to say that I did not call out to anyone when I worked for student loans!! People called me. 6y
802Librarian I have been paying for college in some way or another since 1997. I still have 2 years left on my grad loans 😐 6y
ValerieAndBooks @WarpedSweetness that job was probably quite eye-opening 😮 6y
ValerieAndBooks @NHLibrarian I bet there will be a huge celebration when it‘s all paid off🎊 🍾🎉! 6y
WarpedSweetness @ValerieAndBooks Oh yeah, you have no idea. @NHLibrarian Two years left isn't so bad!! I hope you have a huge celebration!! 6y

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this book. I had to read it for my book club, and I'm so happy I did, because it wouldn't be a normal pick for me. It's the story of Ken Ilgunas and his quest to get out of debt from school loans. I read the book in one day. It's awesome and inspiring. Must read

Great book! Quick read and very entertaining. A story about a college student concern over his debt turned into a a great discussion about what we should want out of life.

Walden on Wheels is a memoir about a man who graduates college with a large amount of student loans, pays it off and then lives in a van to save money during graduate school. This is something I have been really excited to read and Ilgunas' style is very entertaining!
