I loved this book. I'm not exactly sure why I do. Maybe it's her eloquent descriptions of scenery and people, all while maintaining a certain aloofness. The story can be hard to follow at times but was a surprisingly smooth read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"The point is the that the city of Kyoto has declared itself open during the war years, which meant that the Japanese promised, and promises were sometimes listened to during wartime, that there were no military facilities within its walls." pg. 99

shawnmooney This is one of those novels I read – about eight or nine years ago – that I remember almost nothing about except that I quite enjoyed it. Time for a re-read! 8y
