I was very, very excited to read this book. Then I started reading it and instantly was not for it. I absolutely hate the ‘Im not like other girls‘ trope. It‘s so overused and never done well because everyone‘s different anyway. This book was an extreme let down. I hated Cara‘s personality and the whole secret note thing? So stupid. It felt like the author didn‘t have enough of an idea to write on and she had to keep adding to it.

Cara Jenkins feels most at home clinging to a rock wall by her fingertips. She‘s enjoyed a roaming life with her mountaineering parents, making the natural world her jungle gym. But when tragedy strikes on an Ecuadoran mountaintop, Cara‘s nomadic lifestyle comes to an abrupt halt. Starting over at her grandparents‘ home in Detroit, Cara embarks on a year of discovery, uncovering unknown strengths, friendships, and love.

raelaschoenherr I read everything Lauren Willig writes! Pink Carnation is fun, but she grows a lot as a writer throughout the series. 7y
CrowCAH @CocoReads @readinginthedark @raelaschoenherr I love the Scarlet Pimpernel, so I picked up the Pink Carnation! When I get to it, sounds like I‘ll enjoy it!!! 7y
readinginthedark I love The Scarlet Pimpernel! Pink Carnation is more historical romance than adventure, but it‘s still good! 7y

Enjoyed this!
Cara was used to a life of competitive climbing, being home schooled by her mountain-loving parents, and living in their cabin in California. After an unforeseeable event occurs that rocks her family, Cara is forced to move to Detroit to live with her grandparents. Regular high school is a world she never expected she would experience. She undergoes a very emotional journey, figuring out who she is and what life is really all about.
