Murder at Morrington Hall
Murder at Morrington Hall | Clara McKenna
5 posts | 7 read | 6 to read
Stella Kendrick is an all-American heiress who can't be tamed. But when the lively aspiring equine trainer tangles with British aristocracy, she meets her match--and a murderer . . . Spring, 1905: Free-spirited like the Thoroughbreds she rides across the Kentucky countryside, Stella takes adventure by the reins when she's asked to attend a mysterious wedding in rural England. But once she arrives at the lush Morrington Hall estate, her cold and ambitious father confesses that he won't only give away his best racehorses as gifts--he has also arranged to give away his daughter as bride to the Earl of Atherly's financially strapped son . . . Stella refuses to be sold off like a prized pony. Yet despite a rough start, there's something intriguing about her groom-to-be, the roguish Viscount "Lyndy" Lyndhurst. The unlikely pair could actually be on the right track with each other . . . until they find the vicar who was to marry them dead in the library. With culture clashes mounting between families, a scandalous murder case hangs over Morrington Hall. Now, Stella and Lyndy must go from future spouses to amateur sleuths as they team up to search for the truth--and prevent an unbridled criminal from destroying their new life together right out of the gate . . .

Enjoyed this mystery set in England. An American heiress is basically forced to marry but she twists it so it works for her. There is a lot of horses and horse racing, etc. I will continue this series. It‘s the first in the series.

Stella is an interesting character. Her father can‘t get accepted by the wealthy in America, so he finds an impoverished British family who needs his wealth. Stella is unaware that she‘s been promised in marriage to Lindy. An interesting look at how she‘s treated because of her habits and outgoing personality by the upper crust society she‘s been thrust into. When the murderer is revealed, the sense of entitlement is highlighted.

I started off REALLY not liking this one because 1. it was slow and 2. the male half of the leads was a total jerk, pompous and sexist. But I LOVED Stella and Lyndy evolved from a Neanderthal. 😂 Stella (a wealthy heiress from KY) is basically sold by her father, for 2 racehorses and bailout money for the Lyndhurst estate, all to gain an aristocrat in the family. The vicar is murdered shortly before the nuptials (which Stella knew nothing about)🔻

robinb and she and Lyndy begin to know each other through their attempts to solve the mystery. While it‘s not a stellar mystery, I enjoyed it enough that I‘ll probably give the next one a try...for Stella‘s sake. 😉 4/5⭐️ 3y

It's the last two days of #cozyinthesun! Make sure to finish up and review your last picks in order to be counted - we have a few people with really strong numbers, so you'll want to make sure you've everything in. (I, on the other hand, will try to finish up this one and then review my paltry numbers - July was so busy!!!)
