"'How dare you? I never asked for you to hunt me down!' No, Velma Martinez hadn't. But when you had once been Velveteen, child super-heroine and one of The Junior Super Patriots, West Coast Division, you were never going to be free, even if your only power was to bring toys to life. The Marketing Department would be sure of that. So it all came down to this. One young woman and an army of misfit toys vs. the assembled might of the nine members of The Junior Super Patriots, West Coast Division who had come to take her down. They never had a chance."--Dust jacket flap.

This third volume of Velveteen stories, with all the different issues it hit on, was my favorite read of August. #somethingforsept #favereads Day 1

TheLondonBookworm Graphic novel? Looks intriguing.... 8y
RealLifeReading This looks weird. But good weird! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @TheLondonBookworm No. It's a series of interconnected stories about superheroes. Silly, wonderful superheroes. But that's just the surface. It's about morality and friendship and loyalty. Kick-ass character development and world building. Super funny and incredibly touching. Completely overflowing with heart. Totally wonderful! The volume listed is the first one. There are 3 volumes. They are all really great! 8y

This review is actually for Velveteen Vs. The Seasons, Book 3 of her adventures. These stories are SO much more than a tale of a superhero in a bunny costume. It's about making the right choices, loyalty, friendship, sacrifice, growth and pain. As befits tales of a true superhero. It's filled with positive feminist messages and positive LGTBQ messages and being a decent human messages. I really enjoy Seanan's writing, but I LOVE these stories!

"But cornfields- there's a power in cornfields. They're a whole different sort of symbol. Every cornfield we have means something else. There are cornfields people get wished into and cornfields that people run away in. There are cornfields haunted by slasher killers and cornfields with bad infestations of children with hair like silk and eyes like a crime scene. This cornfield is one of the symbolic ones." from Velveteen Vs. The Seasons

Realizing that there is a third Velveteen book does not bode well for my client today. How did I miss the existence of this book until today? Regardless- it's mine now! If you like stories about kick-ass women that are funny, sweet and filled with all the feelings, I strongly recommend giving these a try. I enjoy Seanan's books a lot, but to me, these are very special indeed.

I love these stories. They are filled with so much heart and so many great themes. The plots seem almost silly at first, until you begin to see where she's going. They're amazing and you should read them. And I really really want more stories!
