Pickpick

It‘s 1986. Nova and her big sister plan to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger together soon. Their life in foster care has been full of changes, which is difficult for Nova who is autistic and does not speak. The new family seems to really care about Nova and she wishes she could tell them all she‘s feeling.

The author, also on the autism spectrum, tells the story with sensitivity. Loved seeing the world through Nova‘s eyes.

Mehso-so

I appreciated the way I was shown how the nonverbal main character thought. There was quite a bit of repetition. The relationship between the sisters and between Nova and her new foster family are great. I wish the major trauma wasn‘t so close to the end of the novel. It doesn‘t leave a lot of time for realistic solution.

My kiddos' library haul 😊 my 11 year old only checked out the tagged book because it's pretty long, plus she has other books she's reading at home. My 6 year old got the bottom three ❤📚
