While the cult atmosphere depicted is creepy, the solution is a bit too simplistic. It ended too quickly with the issues a bit glossed over. However it was a quick read and entertaining.

#AugustGrrrl #FamilyAffair Six books that I've read and enjoyed featuring families (by birth or created-cult/social experiment) with varying levels of drama and dysfunction in them. Some of these books are funny, some touching and/or sad, some a bit scary--but all of them have made me appreciate my family as even though we have our dramas, overall, our dysfunction level seems pretty mild compared to some of these family units. 😆👍
#JuneTunz #welcometothejungle My thought for Welcome to the Jungle was this YA book, set in the rainforests of Costa Rica (rainforests count as jungles-I checked!) Twig is 17, about to be married to Adam, aka 'Father'-the leader of the cult she grew up in. When a riding accident has her taken to the hospital and away from 'The Family' she finds her world & what she wants changing. Great premise-cult + jungle & pretty good execution. I enjoyed it.
Twig lives in the Family, a collective society located in the rainforest of Costa Rica.
Adam—their prophet—announces that Twig will be his new bride, and she is overjoyed. But when an injury forces her to leave the compound, Twig finds Leo, an American boy, and begins to question everything about her life within the Family and the cult to which she belongs.

It is incredible the power Adam has to shape people's minds - the deceit made my stomach turn! I am pleased with the way the novel ended. Though it seemed fast-paced, it matches how Twig must have felt in these moments. However, I would love to hear more from Twig. I want to know how she and Avery adjust to living back in the United States, and what unfolds between her and Leo (if anything)
Started The Family today and I am fascinated by the dynamics. Twig is already faced with an incredible predicament and I wonder what is in store for her and The Family next...!
If you love cults you have got to read this one! It's creepy in a good way and has a great heroine in Twig! Very insightful!
