Just like any average seventeen-year-old, Twig loves her family. She has a caring mother and a controlling father. Her brothers and sisters are committed to her familys prosperity All one hundred eighty-three of them. Twig lives in the Family, a collective society located in the rainforest of Costa Rica. Family members coexist with values of complete openness and honesty, and they share a fear of contagious infection in the outside world. Adamtheir Father, prophet, and saviorannounces that Twig will be his new bride, and she is overjoyed and honored. But when an injury forces her to leave the Family compound, Twig finds that the world outside is not as toxic as she was made to believe. And then she meets Leo, an American boy with a killer smile, and begins to question everything about her life within the Family and the cult to which she belongs. But when it comes to Family, you dont get a choice. Praise for The Family: Fascinating and chilling, THE FAMILY takes you past the armed guards of a secluded compound where individualism is punished, technology is forbidden, and a charismatic leader plays God through terror and control. The novels relentless plot and vividly drawn characters will suck you in, but be warned: once youre in the Family, its almost impossible to escape. Anna Schumacher, author of End Times Eerie and suspenseful, Kennerson gives us a fascinating look into the psychology of cults and the meaning of Family. Bianca Turetsky, author of The Time-Traveling Fashionista

Mehso-so

While the cult atmosphere depicted is creepy, the solution is a bit too simplistic. It ended too quickly with the issues a bit glossed over. However it was a quick read and entertaining.

#AugustGrrrl #FamilyAffair Six books that I've read and enjoyed featuring families (by birth or created-cult/social experiment) with varying levels of drama and dysfunction in them. Some of these books are funny, some touching and/or sad, some a bit scary--but all of them have made me appreciate my family as even though we have our dramas, overall, our dysfunction level seems pretty mild compared to some of these family units. 😆👍

Cinfhen I agree, my family seems mildly normal after some of the novels I've read! Great choices and collage 💗📚🤗 7y

#JuneTunz #welcometothejungle My thought for Welcome to the Jungle was this YA book, set in the rainforests of Costa Rica (rainforests count as jungles-I checked!) Twig is 17, about to be married to Adam, aka 'Father'-the leader of the cult she grew up in. When a riding accident has her taken to the hospital and away from 'The Family' she finds her world & what she wants changing. Great premise-cult + jungle & pretty good execution. I enjoyed it.

Cinfhen Cool 😎 and you know I'm LOVING this graphic 🙌🏻💚💚💚🙌🏻 8y

It is incredible the power Adam has to shape people's minds - the deceit made my stomach turn! I am pleased with the way the novel ended. Though it seemed fast-paced, it matches how Twig must have felt in these moments. However, I would love to hear more from Twig. I want to know how she and Avery adjust to living back in the United States, and what unfolds between her and Leo (if anything)

Started The Family today and I am fascinated by the dynamics. Twig is already faced with an incredible predicament and I wonder what is in store for her and The Family next...!
