Beautiful Storm: Lightning Strikes (#1) | Barbara Freethy
8 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
From #1 NY Times Bestselling Author Barbara Freethy comes the first book in a new romantic suspense trilogy: Lightning Strikes. In these connected novels, lightning leads to love, danger, and the unraveling of long-buried secrets that will change not only the past but also the future When her father's plane mysteriously disappeared in the middle of an electrical storm, Alicia Monroe became obsessed with lightning. Now a news photographer in Miami, Alicia covers local stories by day and chases storms at night. In a flash of lightning, she sees what appears to be a murder, but when she gets to the scene, there is no body, only a military tag belonging to Liliana Valdez, a woman who has been missing for two months. While the police use the tag to jump-start their stalled investigation, Alicia sets off on her own to find the missing woman. Her search takes her into the heart of Miami's Cuban-American community, where she meets the attractive but brooding Michael Cordero, who has his own demons to vanquish. Soon Alicia and Michael are not just trying to save Liliana's life but also their own, as someone will do anything to protect a dark secret Coming Soon in the Lightning Strikes Trilogy: Lightning Lingers (#2) Summer Rain (#3) Have you read my ongoing NYT Bestselling Callaway Series? Mehso-so

A lightning chasing photographer meets an architect, prime suspect in the disappearance of a JAG officer. The mystery was ok but the relationship between the protagonists seemed paper-thin.

Panpan

Finished this month‘s serial read from B&N last night. This one wasn‘t my jam and falls between so-so and pan. The book was heavy with lame conversations that I can‘t picture two people having. I did like the characters and was intrigued by the mystery which is probably what got me through it. #serialreads

Panpan

While I‘m panning this book, I actually enjoyed reading it for the most part, other than some of the romantic dreck, which is not my thing. BUT the author uses a major narrative cheat to get a plot point in at the beginning that you don‘t know is a cheat until the end and I just can‘t. I do appreciate the B&N readouts, though—I‘ve read 3 books this way and will definitely read others.

Pickpick

I finally took a step back from The Lunar Chronicles series and finished this romance/mystery book. It's the first in the trilogy and it was soooo good. I love how Barbara has introduced two mysteries into one book, and left readers still wondering about the one mystery that is left unsolved... Definitely 5/5 ⭐️
