I nearly chucked this book when she described mooncakes as an ' unpleasant blend of lotus paste and egg yolk'....😱😱 The tone of this book was whiny and not what I expected from a travel writer. She had a marked disdain for the country that she was traveling through. I persisted through it as she does adeptly summarise some key historical points in China.
