Meet the Rabbitte family, motley bunch of loveable ne'er-do-wells whose everyday purgatory is rich with hangovers, dogshit and dirty dishes. When the older sister announces her pregnancy, the family are forced to rally together and discover the strangeness of intimacy. But the question remains: which friend of the family is the father of Sharon's child? By the bestselling author of The Commitments, now a long-running West End stage show. 'Unstoppable fun. A big-hearted, big-night out' The Times

Jaysis! That was brilliant. When I was reading it, at 3am, I was worried that my giggling was going to wake people up. I can‘t believe I haven‘t read Roddy Doyle before!
It appears that these are all out of print. Not having the whole trilogy in my library is going to make me a little crazy.
#OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew (I keep forgetting my timer, but I‘m getting a lot of hours in anyway. lol)

BookNAround This was such a good giggle, right? I think I might have the whole trilogy from when it came out but it makes me sad it‘s out of print now. 4mo

This was a thoroughly funny book which reminded me of my trip to Ireland in the 80s.

Why haven't I read Roddy Doyle before? This novel is really funny. But there is more to it than you'd think at first sight. There is also trauma here and severe limitations by society, overcome by love and a kind of gallow's humour.

After a recent traumatic pregnancy, it also made me remember the good parts for the first time.

Can I just be adopted by the Rabbitte family now?

Emilymdxn My fave by Roddy Doyle is the woman who walked into doors - it‘s quite serious and big tw for domestic violence but its a really great, important book that covers dark stuff with a very light hand 5y
zsuzsanna_reads @Emilymdxn That has been on my TBR for at least a decade! Surrey libraries has the Barrytown trilogy on audiobook through RBdigital, which is perfect because I get the proper Irish accents and these books are full of Dublin slang 😀 5y
