I don't know why the twist was so anathematic to me but it was. Just... Not laid down that well.

This is supposed to be a modern YA retelling of Turn of the Screw (which I haven't read but I'm vaguely aware of it as cornerstone English ghost story). Jamie is working as an au pair between her junior and senior year of high school, has a bit of a pill addiction, and teen girl attitude out the ears (I'm twenty pages in and she's harped on about the maid's lisp like 80 times. The lisp is annoying to read, her mocking even more so).
