In honor of LGBTQIA Pride month, and for the #1001Books Goodreads group Diversity challenge. The autobiographical novel is different from anything else I have read, but most similar to John Irving I think. Brutally honest.

Blaire Ive had this on my shelf for years!! I need to get to it. 7y

This groundbreaking novel about a gay teenage boy coming of age in the 1950s is full of nostalgia and the yearning to be comfortable with oneself. The writing is elegant and the story is an important one to tell, though I found certain sections to be far more affecting and compelling than others. This was an uneven read for me, though I'm glad I read it.

Enjoying a quiet, autumnal Sunday with good coffee and a good book. Doesn't get better than that!

Dedicating my first Litsy post to tonight's book club at City Lit Books! I'm hosting the inaugural meeting of the Wilde Readers - a reading group focusing on LGBTQ lit, classic and contemporary. We are starting with Edmund White's "A Boy's Own Story"

I think this is one of those books that was perhaps too well written. I found myself often not paying attention and having to re-read paragraphs because I started thinking about something else. I'm sure school and work getting in the way doesn't help! I'm still interested in where this series is going to go so not all hope is lost in this series! I said similar things about The Raven Boys and wound up loving the series more than life itself.
