I read this immediately after moving to Chicago and it helped me fall in love with the city in a brand new and exciting way.

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman

Pickpick

You will fall in love with Ove instantly. This brilliant novel examines what happens when life as we know it ceases to be and how we move forward and find strength and understanding in the most unlikely places. You will laugh, cry, smile, sigh, and find new connection with people in your life. I'm so sad to have read the final page but so glad I stumbled on this beautiful story.

Coffee break on a Sunday is reminding me a lot of Monday. Loving this so far, though.

Andrew's Brain: A Novel | E.L. Doctorow
Pickpick

Doctorow's beautiful mastery of language and ability to weave a compelling narrative shine masterfully in this novel. Andrew is one of the most interesting and insightful characters I have read in a long time, and I could not put this book down. This is just another example of what makes Doctorow one of the best authors of our time.

Reading this while standing in line to vote today made me extremely grateful to recognize that while there is a long way for us to go, I'm glad to live in a country that offers so many liberties and freedoms. Let's not let that fall away this election.

Hag-Seed | Margaret Atwood

An excellently crafted retelling of The Tempest. It will make you think about the "prisons" of your own life and the price we pay to be freed from them. If you love theatre, Shakespeare, or the idea of bettering yourself as a human being, this is the book for you!

Enjoying a quiet, autumnal Sunday with good coffee and a good book. Doesn't get better than that!

A Little Life: A Novel | Hanya Yanagihara
Pickpick

This book beautifully captures this story of friendship in a very real and visceral way. It is so delicately crafted and exposes the most basic components of humanity in a completely honest and emotionally impactful way. These characters become so real and heartbreakingly familial that I found myself dreading the final pages, because I didn't want to say goodbye.
