I love this book. I read parts of it aloud to my newborn daughter and I can only hope that she is as kind as Beth, as gentle as Meg, as creative as Amy, and as adventurous as Jo. 🤍

Another belated review: this was one of the #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead #LMMAdjacent picks in October—and it was the slowest burn ever. I‘d read that it was slow & wordy, but man… it was really slow and really wordy. It used lots of gothic tropes without actually feeling gothic, it talked about how creepy the house was but didn‘t feel creepy, and the sinister curse didn‘t feel all that sinister. Hawthorne‘s writing really is beautiful, ⤵️
Started this #audiobook for Victorian Book Club discussion in December.
Already I have the songs from the musical Oliver! playing in my head! ☺️
“My darling,” said Valentine, “the count just told us that all human wisdom was contained in these two words: Wait and hope.”

This was my first experience reading Dracula in “real time,” on the day each diary entry and letter was written. It‘s the cool & creative idea of Matt Kirkland who rearranged the original book in strict chronological order. I already love this epistolary classic, but this reread was particularly fun. I kept picturing my favorite movie Draculas-the mesmerizing Bela Lugosi and creepy Gary Oldman in the provocative 1992 film version.
(thru ch39) - I haven't enjoyed the last week of chapters as much, since the guys' way of earning money mostly seems to be manipulating the women in their lives 🙄D'Artagnan really is showing is youth and inexperience here as well. At least he found Kitty a new job 😑 I've missed the slapstick from the earlier section of the book, but we'll see what happens if they ever actually head off on their tour of duty. I AM intrigued by some of the ⬇

Well. This was a wild ride. I have never really thought about classics being historical fiction of their time. This book was written about 200 years after some of the true events told. I think this is classified as an adventure book, honestly I found it more of a long winded book about soldiers run amuck. I didn't particularly like anyone and found most all of the characters immature.

This play was the perfect way to revisit a favorite. It was delightful to move from room to room watching as Jane Austen converses with her characters.
