lauralovesbooks1 @JaclynW We were on vacation in Ireland and talking with our teenage waitress at a pub in a small town. I mentioned that I had been reading a lot of books by Irish authors before my trip. She asked if I had read this one -- he was her teacher and she thought he was supposed to be pretty good. That was enough for me to order it when we got back to the states. 6y

lauralovesbooks1 @JaclynW Some of my favorites are John Boyne, Sebastian Barry, and Anne Enright. We started in Dublin and ended in Dublin, with a big circle of the country in between -- Newgrange, Tollymore, Giant's Causeway, Galway, Dingle, Killarney, Cork and Cobh, Rock of Casheel, Glendalough, Howth -- and more. It was such a wonderful trip, we can't wait to go back. 6y

JaclynW @lauralovesbooks1 Wow! You really got around! That's great! I haven't been to a few on the places you listed. Another trip is needed I guess! š‰š„ We saw Newgrange this last trip. I've been to Glendalough multiple times, it's a favorite (so gorgeous)! Howth is cool! Did you try Leo Burdock's Famous Fish & Chips? Mmmm! We have good friends (Irish) that live in Rush, it's a suburb of Dublin. They take us to all of the best places. ā¯¤ 6y

JaclynW @lauralovesbooks1 I've read a few Irish authors/books, but want to do more! I started with some of the classics - Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, C.S. Lewis and Bram Stoker. I've read contemporary authors like Colm Toibin, Frank McCourt, Maeve Binchy, Donal Ryan, and Maggie O'Farrell. I'm currently reading my first by John Boyne (The Hearts Invisible Furies) and loving it. 6y

lauralovesbooks1 I loved Heart's Invisible Furies -- and what a memorable opening line! I'll have to check out some of the other authors you recommended. The Secret Scripture was fantastic -- and the main character in that one was a side character in one of his others. 6y
