Written by Pam Muñoz and illustrated by Mark Astrella, Hello Ocean is a P picture book that shares one‘s memories about the ocean using their five senses. The acrylic paintings in this book are so realistic that it‘s almost hard to believe that they aren‘t photographs. And the writing itself makes you feel as if you really are sitting on the beach listening to the ocean‘s waves crash. I just love the calming factor of this book. #ucflae3414su19
MeganKlein I would use this book in CR, however, I would first present and read the text to my students then have them chorally read with me. Because this text is a P, CR would be an effective strategy that builds fluency and engages all students. UDL strategy 2.4 and EL strategy 24 align with this text because the book actually comes in a translated Spanish version. Spanish-speaking students could follow along with the translated copy! 6y

This lesson plan introduces readers to the five senses and words that the author uses in the book to describe the ocean. The activity in this lesson plan evokes creativity and imagination within students, and it teaches students all about their senses! (edited) 6y
DeannaP I like how you said that you would have it translated into a Spanish version! Even if it wasn‘t, I think the pictures could assist an EL! It‘s also a perfect book for the summer! 6y
