This biography picture book would make a great read-aloud when talking about the Vietnam war and how we now have a memorial to honor all who lost their life. On some of the pages, there are little fun facts about Maya that would keep the readers engaged.

This biography is about a girl named Maya Lin whose family had left China in order to live the American Dream. Both of her parents were artists of sorts and Maya knew she too wanted to create something. In college, she entered a contest to create the Vietnam Memorial and she won. The author is someone who knew Maya personally from college so she was able to include firsthand experiences that Maya encountered while making the plans.

It was really interesting how Maya was only 21 when she designed the memorial.

I love this picture because she is working on architecture with her cat.

Love this book!! Great illustrations and a good story. I loved being able to see how she won the contest even though she was young. It is inspirational to see what amazing things people can do!

I loved these illustrations! They were simple yet beautiful and easy to look at.

This book tells you about Maya Lin and how she loved to study the spaces around her. She explored everything and anything and used her house as a model to build tiny towns out of paper and scraps. Maya grew up with art and learned to think with her hands as well as her mind. This book tells the story of an inspiring American artist, the architect who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

This story was inspiring. Maya Lin started out doing pottery, and then worked her way up to creating a monumental memorial. The illustrations are so detailed and aesthetically pleasing to look at.

This book was so interesting! I enjoyed reading about the Vietnamese Veterans Memorial, and the person who created it. I never really knew about this memorial, soI definitely learned something new when reading this book.

This book is about a young girl who wins an architecture contest and created the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. the illustrations in this book are simple and beautiful. This book is great because it shows that you can get anywhere even if you‘re young!

I thought this biography was so interesting. It told the story of how 21 yo Maya Lin designed the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. I liked that it showed that you can accomplish your goals even at a young age, which is a great lesson for young children to learn.

Her parents fled China at a time when people were told what to be and how to think.

I think these kinds of books where it walks you through the life of someone who accomplished something great because it teaches kids that they can do anything. These people just started put as normal people just like the kiddos.

I like how this books tells a story of a young girl who followed her interests and created a lifelong sculpture with high resemblance and meaning.

Beautifully illustrated children‘s book/biography. Would enhance any unit on artists, the Vietnam War, memorials & monuments, or perseverance. Loved the focus on her love for nature and her studies.

Maya Lin was Chinese, not Vietnamese, but this cute little picture book is still worth the read! It's about Lin and her winning design for the Vietnam War Memorial. Very cool!
