Second in Nesbit's series about the Bastable Children, who have a talent for imaginative ways of getting themselves into trouble. This one is plainly a satire of moralistic Victorian/Edwardian juvenile fiction: the Bastables set up a society for moral improvement. Consistently, repeatedly, and entertainingly, they fail. Fair warning: like its predecessor this is Of Its Time, but the awkward moments are fortunately rare.

TFW you're enjoying a vintage read and out of nowhere the author drops an N-bomb. Your brain says, "It is of its time" but your heart says "And here I thought we could be friends."
