panI love middle grade fantasy. When it's done well, when the world is fanciful and immersive, it's so great. This is not that. The writing is amateurish (clearly no editor) and the characters are wooden. I was curious enough about what was going to happen to keep going, and it was a fast read (mostly because it didn't really matter how closely I paid attention), but the ending was so dull and disappointing.
