No One Writes to the Colonel and Other Stories
No One Writes to the Colonel and Other Stories | Gabriel Garcia Marquez
4 posts | 16 read | 21 to read
Written with compassionate realism and wit, the stories in this mesmerizing collection depict the disparities of town and village life in South America, of the frightfully poor and outrageously rich, of memories and illusions, and of lost opportunities and present joys.

Mehso-so

The problem I have with short stories are they're short. I'm still warming up to it, dipping my toes into the story then it was finished. I do not get to love them as much as I would love if it was a full length novel. This novella/short story was actually pretty good. None of the magic I was accustomed to but a lot of realism. This is real. This happened somewhere in time. A short masterpiece by Senor Marquez!

#LitsyConfession: I haven't read any Gabriel García Márquez. But I'm fixing that this afternoon! I grabbed his first collection of short stories before diving into a novel. I'm excited because I love magical realism. Also will you look at that dapper rooster on the cover? How could I turn this book down?! ?

It's also beautiful & 70° today! But pollen is out in February already? so I'm not reading outside, but I do have the window open. ☀️

Notafraidofwords This cover is awesome lol 8y

Getting my magic-realism on. It's the price on the book that caught my attention.
