Pickpick

This was a pretty heavy book but I thought it was done very well!! Told from different perspectives this story is one that will haunt me for awhile. It deals with domestic abuse and the secrets that we carry.

A solid thriller. Not a lot of plot twists - it‘s pretty clear where the narrative is headed from the beginning, it‘s only a matter of how she gets there. The audio was a little hard to listen to at times because of the violence. TBH I usually skim violence in books and couldn‘t do that with the audio. The writing was great, the characters flawed and interesting. I love shifts in perspective.

alanacristin I feel the same about audiobook thrillers! I've had to stop listening occasionally and switch to an ebook format 😅 5y

Mehso-so

Joyce Carol Oates has long been on my list of authors to try. So I finally did, and read this novel about a woman who gets married but steps in front of a bus, trying to flee the voices in her head. The rest of the short novel is about the voices and really shifts off of who I thought would be the main character. I'm not sure if this is typical but I found the pacing to be a little uneven and the violence to be more than I usually like in books.

TheLudicReader I always find the rhythm of Oates difficult to settle into. Don‘t give up on her. Try 5y
ReadingEnvy @TheLudicReader others have suggested that one too, sounds like the one to try. 5y
Lindy I‘m not a JCO fan. 5y
