Honey
Honey: A Novel | Brenda Brooks
2 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
How far would you go for love? When 24-year-old Nicole Hewett’s beloved childhood friend, Honey, returns to their small northern town after an unexplained six-year absence, Nicole realizes how her life had stalled without her. But the prodigal returns with troubling secrets, and before long Nicole is drawn into a high-stakes game. Honey is a thrilling, sensuous modern noir novel with a classic refrain: nothing is more dangerous than love.

Mehso-so

I like this author's writing on the sentence level, but I found the character development and pacing in this lacking. Nicole is a lost 24-year-old living in her crap hometown when her childhood BFF Honey shows up after a mysterious 6 year absence. What follows is an obsessive love story with a woman involved in shady stuff. But I wasn't convinced of the love, didn't empathize with Nic, and found the pacing at times too slow and others too fast.
