Love, love, love Patricia Polacco‘s art and storytelling. This has a wonderful chocolate cake recipe.

Every single time I shelve this book, I think it reads “Murder Cake.” 😂

This picture book has amazing illustrations that shows exactly what is going on in the book. It also uses some diversity language by calling grandma “babushka“. There is no stereotyping in this book and i love that it leaves the thunder cake recipe in the back of the book.

“This is thunder cake baking weather alright“.

I would use this book in my classroom on a cloudy, stormy day. I would have the children draw pictures of their thunder cake and the ingredients to make it.

Found at a local estate sale today. These old books smell soooooo good.

This realistic fiction picture book is a great opportunity for an author study. It‘s a story about a grandma teaching her granddaughter to bake a cake when storms come.
