I *should* be cleaning. Instead of slinking off to my bedroom to sneak a few pages of my current read. But I have no desire to clean even though I need my house in tip top shape TONIGHT.

But then again I also NEED this book finished for Sunday‘s book club, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

LGBTQ+ YA romance that deals with identity and the ways we can surprise ourselves. Alternating timelines let‘s the reader get a feel for both of Larissa‘s situationships and feel just how confused and conflicted she is! High school is a rough time for figuring yourself out and Dahlia Adler created characters that are doing just that.

March was a FUN and fast and furious reading month. This is the most I‘ve read in a month in over a year. Mindy‘s books are really a collection of essays so those were quick, quick reads, but they show up as each an individual book on goodreads and my kindle so I‘ll take it ;)

March was apparently a month of female authors - an honor to read their stories 😍

And if you haven‘t heard any buzz about The Good Sister yet, it debuts 4/13. (More ⬇️)

Smangela It was a PHENOMENAL read. A nuerodiverse main character with a suspenseful dramatic plot. I couldn‘t put it down! 4y

Reading Good Company and trying to stay on top of the ARCs I‘ve received. Cynthia D‘Aprix Sweeney just has a way with character building. At 34% in, I feel like I know Margot and Flora. Littens, my heart is so sad right now. This weekend my father-in-Law passed away. My husband is 28. I‘m worried about him. I also don‘t know how to best explain this to my 2.5 year old. Does anyone have recommendations for books on this? For my husband to find comfort in, for me to know how to best support him, for talking to my son about it?

We turn to what we know when we don‘t know what to do I think, so I‘m turning to you all and books

Guys it‘s fine, my son is taking the worlds latest nap (okay maybe an exaggeration) but it was so needed I don‘t really want to wake him and we can just sit here in the garage (don‘t worry, door‘s open) and I can read.... The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman is SO good too. Books about people who love books are always in my wheelhouse and this author‘s writing is so witty and engaging.

Ashley_Nicoletto Oh my gosh. I miss my kindle keyboard. 5y
Smangela @Ashley_Nicoletto so I got this when it came out... maybe 2007? And RARELY used it and within the past year I have fallen in love with it and never want to get a new kindle because this one is perfect. 5y

Also out June 11, 2019 was The Perfect Date by Evelyn Lozada. A cute, flirty, fun read with some tidbits of great information. It‘s not a book is necessarily recommend to EVERYONE but one thing I loved was the author‘s dedication to showcasing realities. The main character, Angel, and her son Jose are working their best to make a better life for themselves. Angel works multiple jobs and is putting herself through nursing school. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ cont‘d

Smangela Jose has asthma, a very real problem for many children of color and this prompted me to do some reading into this on my own time. I love that Lozada took her platform to shed light on an issue that could help people out! 5y

This book was on the shelves yesterday! Reminiscent of the movie Simply Irresistible or Chocolat, there is food & magic. It has some serious subjects but doesn‘t delve too deep, keeping it very surface-level and I doubt you‘d be very emotionally affected by this novel. Which isn‘t a bad thing, sometimes it‘s exhausted to be left so heartbroken by books. But it left me happy & intrigued. And wanting very much to visit Chinatown in SF.

Enjoy!

I need help sorting my thoughts on this.

Littens what‘s your take on this?

Soubhiville Huh. I wonder what his reasoning is for that. That‘s not something I look at when choosing what to read at all. Not even a consideration. 5y
Derf Excuse my ignorance, but what‘s M/M? 5y
LibrarianRyan @DannyHattan male/male romance or erotica. 5y
See All 13 Comments
LibrarianRyan I bet some of the books by men are actually pen names for women. It happens in standard romance frequently. Men use female pen names to write romance. 5y
Smangela @LibrarianRyan interesting! I never thought of that before. 5y
Derf Cheers at @LibrarianRyan while I respect other people‘s opinions ..... it‘s not a way I live, I mean who cares? Each to their own. Like you said I wonder if it goes the other way, my guess is not. 5y
LibrarianRyan @DannyHattan not to long ago (within 2 years) I read that more m/m erotica was purchased and read by women than by men. 5y
TrishB A well written book is a well written book....I don‘t care. 5y
LibrarianRyan @DannyHattan if your ever interested in trying out a book I can offer suggestions. I used to review erotica for LJ. 5y
Smangela @Soubhiville I was really surprised by it, I don‘t know maybe I have the idea that love is love is love is love? So if you‘ve experienced any romantic relationship it‘s kind of a shared experience? The comment made me feel confused lol I immediately felt like it was more a convenient excuse to not read female authors... but I recognize that may not be a fair impression either lol 5y
Smangela @DannyHattan that‘s where I went too, like are they that selective with all their reading? 5y
Smangela @LibrarianRyan interesting fact again! I‘m not really into erotica, but I love a good love story. 😍 5y
PerksOfBeingABookworm Is he a man who has been or is in a M/M relationship? Maybe he thinks that a woman could not accurately portray a M/M romance...? I could understand if he‘s in M/M relationships and is wary that a person who has never been in one could not write a novel that reflects those relationships. 5y

I was late to the Queer Eye game. It‘s on season three and I only just started binging it a week or so ago. Reading The Woman Inside by E.G. Scott before it debuts on the 22nd - hailed as being twisty and thrilling (I‘m on a thriller binge right now it seems).

I‘m certainly intrigued at almost 100 pages in, but I also feel like I need to start taking notes. I don‘t know if it‘s the alternating narrators AND timelines or if it‘s an intentional confusion to mimic a drug addiction?

I don‘t know what the heck is going on here yet!

Also curious as to ⬇️

Smangela What two writers make up E. G. Scott - Im trying to figure out if my disconnect with Rebecca is just because of vastly different lives or if it‘s because it‘s a man writing a woman‘s POV? Anyone else reading? (edited) 6y

LibrarianRyan So many. I‘m a fan of Or anything by this author. 6y
Smangela @LibrarianRyan the name alone sounds adorable!! 6y

Some thoughts.

1. Holy Toledo it‘s been 2 months since I‘ve posted on Litsy, but November is always a crazy month for me, wedding anniversary, Little one‘s birthday, and thanksgiving.
2. I was actually a Tony but looking forward to my husband‘s endoscopy because I get some uninterrupted READING time!
3. I also was sitting in a chair that was like infested with ants guys and now I feel like they‘re crawling all over me. This is my nightmare. ☠️

Kaye Let me get this straight . You‘re in a waiting room of a medical facility that has ants crawling all over the place ? Where‘s the hospital ? A tent in the Amazon jungle ? 6y
Smangela @Kaye it was alarming to say the least!!! Luckily when I told them, they IMMEDIATELY cleaned it up 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Kaye That‘s good. 🐜 🐜 🐜 6y

Headed to a pumpkin patch today for lots of fall goodness.

We‘re reading One for the Money in the car today and I‘m happy to report it‘s just as funny the second time. Both hubby & I have laughed out loud at Grandma Mazur‘s antics 😂

Anyone else read in the car?

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I used to get car sick, but for some reason I don‘t anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6y

Oh Fred, you‘re just so satisfyingly predictable.

The fact that he watches his saleswoman girlfriend pull the same flattery to all the male customers to jack up the purchases, is apparently lost on him.

Samplergal I just received this ARC yesterday. Hope to find time soon. 6y
Smangela @Samplergal I‘m really enjoying it, it‘s kind of cynical... but in a good way... I‘m not sure that makes sense haha 😂 6y

There is something about this line from Family Trust that just struck a chord with me. I don‘t find it particularly cynical, though maybe it is meant to be, but rather kind of comforting.

Shout out to @WilliamMorrowBooks for the ARC. I am really digging it. And it turns out to be a timely read as this is set in the Bay Area and I just returned from there!
