The Difference Between You and Me
The Difference Between You and Me | Madeleine George
5 posts | 7 read | 4 to read
"Sweet, tender, and true!" - Laurie Halse Anderson Jesse cuts her own hair with a Swiss Army knife. She wears big green fisherman's boots. She's the founding (and only) member of NOLAW, the National Organization to Liberate All Weirdos. Emily wears sweaters with faux pearl buttons. She's vice president of the student council. She has a boyfriend. These two girls have nothing in common, except the passionate "private time" they share every Tuesday afternoon. Jesse wishes their relationship could be out in the open, but Emily feels she has too much to lose. When they find themselves on opposite sides of a heated school conflict, they each have to decide what's more important: what you believe in, or the one you love?

I had really high hopes for this book. Compared to a lot of the YA I read, this seems a bit futile and stupid. A lot of the problems seem very heated and the introduction of Esther was not called for. Not only is Emily not a very likable character, her stubbornness isn‘t cute, it‘s idiotic! My final problem is the ending, the author did not wrap up the story and if it had gone on for just a few more chapters it probably would have a better ending.

Tl/dr: Two girls in high school have one love but two very different takes on politics
Good: strong characters, charming details, sweet romance
Bad: a little heartbreaking how the one out girl is strung along by the closeted kid

Sweet light romance that is worth a read

Bailedbailed

I decided to bail on this one, not because I am hating it exactly, but because it‘s not really capturing my attention. If I didn‘t have like twelve dozen other books I was more excited about, I‘d probably stick with it since it‘s a very quick read... but I‘m bailing halfway through
