When a strange egg appears in their nest, Mr. and Mrs. Bird kindly take it upon themselves to raise the "baby bird" inside. But when the egg hatches, the Birds are in for a big surprise--"Junior" is the oddest-looking baby bird they've ever seen--with big, long jaws full of teeth and an appetite to match. DrSpalding I just made text to text connections with Are You My Mother? by the same author. This would make for a nice storytelling but is quite long. It is not your average picture book. 6y

Belated day 11 of #Riotgrams (posting is hard when you have the flu): favorite children's book. My mother read this to me at least a few hundred times when I was small, but I didn't have a copy. Then, after I told my BFF about this book, SHE BOUGHT ME A COPY! because she is amazing.

Apart from the chaotic neutral role the boy plays by putting a random egg in a random nest, this is our current go-to for bed and naptime reading. The "crocagator" is our favorite reptile, by far.
