Flap Your Wings
Flap Your Wings | P.D. Eastman

When a strange egg appears in their nest, Mr. and Mrs. Bird kindly take it upon themselves to raise the "baby bird" inside. But when the egg hatches, the Birds are in for a big surprise--"Junior" is the oddest-looking baby bird they've ever seen--with big, long jaws full of teeth and an appetite to match. In fact, he looks more like a baby alligator than a baby bird! Nevertheless, the devoted Birds run themselves ragged feeding Junior until he gets so big, he must leave the nest or it will collapse underneath him. But how can Junior fly without wings? To the delight of the Birds--and readers!--the dilemma is solved when Junior takes off from a branch overlooking a pond. From the Hardcover edition.

Flap Your Wings is a wonderful book written and illustrated by P.D Eastman. It's a cute and funny story that helps teach about inclusion and acceptance. It would be great for IR or S in a classroom. There are also some fun bird related activities at

DrSpalding I just made text to text connections with Are You My Mother? by the same author. This would make for a nice storytelling but is quite long. It is not your average picture book. 6y

Belated day 11 of #Riotgrams (posting is hard when you have the flu): favorite children's book. My mother read this to me at least a few hundred times when I was small, but I didn't have a copy. Then, after I told my BFF about this book, SHE BOUGHT ME A COPY! because she is amazing.

Pickpick

Apart from the chaotic neutral role the boy plays by putting a random egg in a random nest, this is our current go-to for bed and naptime reading. The "crocagator" is our favorite reptile, by far.
