Shadow on the Mountain | Margi Preus
4 posts | 4 read | 8 to read
In her new novel, a Newbery Honor winner recounts the adventures of a 14-year-old Norwegian boy named Espen during World War II. Preus incorporates archival photographs, maps, and other images to tell this story based on the real-life adventures of Norwegian Erling Storrusten, whom Preus interviewed in Norway.

Interesting chapter of WW2 that was new to me: After Nazis invade and occupy Norway, Espen and his friends are swept up in the Norwegian resistance movement. These 11 - 14 year olds start by distributing newsletters (non Nazi-approved) subversively to like-minded individuals. Based on a true story.
