“In my village, it is said that when Kans the demon strikes a little girl at birth and kills her, that little girl floats up into the heavens and becomes thunder herself. Demons struck me down so I became thunder for the others. I don‘t see myself as a good person, but I‘m not a criminal either. All I did was do to men what they had done to me.”

An excellent introduction to the remarkable life of the Bandit Queen.

BarbaraBB Wow. How cool that you are reading this now! 11mo

#bookmail! Can‘t wait to try Boulder. So excited to do Another Year of Wonder in 2024 (did Year of Wonder a few years back and it was wonderful). And I‘ve been wanting to learn more about Phoolan Devi ever since reading The Bandit Queens so looking forward to tagged graphic biography.

JamieArc I just looked up and stacked the tagged today after finishing Bandit Queens. Curious to learn more about her. 11mo
BookNAround I read the tagged and was glad to have it my knowledge bank for Bandit Queens because I wouldn‘t have known Phoolan Devi‘s story without it. 11mo
Librarybelle I‘m doing The Year of Wonder this year and did not realize she compiled a second book! This is so exciting…thanks for posting this! 11mo

What a amazing, eye opening graphic novel, so interesting to learn about the Bandit Queen/Rebel Queen, and made me quite emotional towards the end, she had such a hard childhood/life. Read as part of the @bookriot #readharderchallenge2021 5/5

The graphic biography format didn‘t allow the story of Phoolan Devi‘s life to be as complex and filled out as it must have been but I found the story of this woman who rose from nothing to serve as a politician advocating for the under and I represented to be interesting for sure.
