The writing was very stilted feeling, who‘s is perhaps more on the translator than the author, but I lost interest 17% in.
Lu Yao only published two books before his death but they were well regarded enough for him to be considered one of the best contemporary Chinese authors. I went into this book with some pretty high expectations. Ill equipped for rural life, Gao Jialin‘s attempts to find a place he fits in the changing China of the 1980s made an easy to read and engaging story but nothing seemed especially new or captivating to me. #panasianauthor #booked2020
