Feeling nostalgic today and going through my wedding photos. I love my centerpieces! Super thrifty. I already owned all the books (and for those I didn‘t it gave me a good excuse to buy more books...) and my mom owned the milk glass. All books made it safely back home, haha.

cherinium A coworker recently gave me two canvas shopping bags full of books she had used as centerpieces at her wedding. She bought them all at thrift stores and had no intention of keeping them past the wedding. I'm the one who made out on that deal! 2mo
Skyrimir @cherinium that is a really good deal! I definitely still have all of mine, plus the few I bought. It was an excuse to get some new hardcovers, I usually go paperback! 2mo

Whenever the kids I babysit get another book by Shannon Hale I get so excited. This one and Real Friends really captures much of the way I felt growing up. Anxiety about everything, intrusive thoughts, having a hard time making friends or knowing all the social rules. It‘s comforting in a way to know you aren‘t alone, especially when anxiety makes you feel that way.

Last year I read Nickel and Dimed with my seniors. While I thought it was good for them to read about experiences they may not be that close to, I did find her book a bit meh. I wanted them to read more about the people living these lives and less about a fairly affluent person play acting. I‘m hoping this is good and I can use it in class this year!

Listening on Overdrive. Anyone else ever get to a point in a book and just wish someone would tell you the ending? I‘m so over the main character in this book, and her “friends” from her early twenties. Sometimes I like a book with unlikeable characters and sometimes it drives me bonkers. At this point I‘ve invested too much, I have to know how the lost night really played out! (Haha, and since it‘s on audio I can‘t just skip to the last page.)

HELP! I moved classrooms and have been reevaluating my classroom library. I have 9th - 12th grade this year (12th grade typically). I have a lot of old books I feel just haven‘t been interesting the kids! If I was able to build up a more recent library, what are suggestions my fellow littens would come up with? Any genre, I just want more recent, tempting books to put on my shelves.

Skyrimir I‘m also reorganizing in that I feel like my previous shelf was too cluttered and maybe the kids were too overwhelmed to be able to pick anything. I‘ll have a basket for different genres, no overflowing. So far it looks like I have plenty of classics and younger reads, so I‘m looking for newer anything! I‘ll also have a basket for complete trilogies. I would like to stay away from series books if possible, but if I can find the first that should (edited) 5mo
Skyrimir Be okay. It can be a “whet your appetite” basket. Haha 5mo
Lovesbooks87 YA has been my new favorite genre. I love anything by Sarah Dessen, Sandhya Menon, Julie Buxbuam, Marissa Meyer, Samira Ahmed, Meagan Spooner, Jennifer E. Smith, Brittany Cavllaro, Jeff Zenter, Megan Miranda, Angie Thomas, Rachel Lynn Solomon, Kiera Cass, Maureen Johnson, Karen M. McManus, Monica Hesse, Neil Shusterman I could go on and on! I also loved a series called Twisted Tales. They are all fairy tale retellings. Hope this helps! 5mo
Skyrimir Love these suggestions! Thank you both! 5mo

I had never heard of silkpunk before, but I‘m excited to start this! Also, I love reading under my t shirt quilts! I have such a hard time getting rid of favorite shirts, I always end up turning them into a blanket when I get enough that I don‘t wear much anymore.

Sunraven I‘ve totally been thinking of doing that with some t-shirts, too! How do you usually sew them together? I‘ve been pondering the best way for a while now. 5mo
Skyrimir @Sunraven I do simple quilts, just squares that are the same size and I use my machine. The first I had so many issues because the fabric is stretchy. After that I used felt lining instead of the poly lining and it was SO much easier because the shirts kind of stuck to the felt and didn‘t stretch as much. There‘s also a “glue” spray you can get to help with that, my sister likes to use that but I haven‘t tried it. 5mo
Sunraven Some fabric glue spray has been staring at me from my Amazon “saved for later” for months for exactly this reason, haha. Did the first wonky one still come out usable? I think I can deal with fighting with/learning from the first one if it will still come out usable. It‘s just that I‘ve only ever made one quilt top in my life, and it still isn‘t quilted, so if things come out too wonky, I might end up with another UFO. 😅 5mo
Skyrimir Definitely still came out usable! And it was mostly that the lines where the squares met weren‘t as straight as I would have liked. I use it all the time though and have gotten compliments on it, so it must be okay, haha 5mo
