Making Wolf
Making Wolf | Thompson, Tade

A gritty thriller set in the blazing sun of the tropics
Meet Weston Kogi, a London supermarket security guard. He returns to his West African home country for his aunt’s funeral. He sees his family, his ex-girlfriend, Nana, his old school mate, Church. Food is good, beer is plentiful, and telling people he works as a big-time London homicide detective seems like harmless hyperbole, until he wakes up in hell.
He is kidnapped and forced by two separate rebel factions to investigate the murder of a local hero, Papa Busi. The solution may set the country ablaze in civil war. Making Wolf is an outrageous, frightening, violent, and sometimes surreal experience of a lifetime. They say you can never go home again. Weston Kogi and the country of his birth may very well pay the ultimate price for his doing exactly that.

Pickpick

I got lucky in our library coming along this book. I didn't know that there's a new book out by Tade Thompson (still waiting for his next Rosewater novel to be translated). Of course I got it without any hesitation. And I was not disappointed.

The story is set in a fictional city/country. But there's no doubt that what Thompson is writing about is more than real. This is all happening right now, on many places around the globe. ⬇

Jari-chan There are many hard scenes, one has to be able to deal with those. I often closed my eyes for a little while, breathing slowly, then continued reading. Because I wanted, I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Doesn't matter if it's Sci-Fi or a thriller Tade Thompson writes - he simply knows how to make his stories work.

Mehso-so

Tade Thompson‘s hard-boiled noir makes excellent use of its fictional West African setting to send its main character on a nightmarish investigation beset by violence and corruption. However, the mystery plot doesn‘t quite hang together, I needed more of Weston‘s London life to flesh out how Alcacia is changing him and the female characters are noticeably under-developed for femme fatales. Saying that though, I would definitely read a sequel.
