The Silver Brumby took me cantering into the worlds wilder places. Geraldine McCaughrean A silver brumby is a rare and special creature, prized both by other horses and by men... A silver brumby is special, but he will be hunted by man and horse alike, and must be stronger than both. Thowra, the magnificent silver stallion, becomes king of the brumbies. But he must defend his herd from the mighty horse, The Brolga, in the most savage of struggles. That is not the only danger. Thowra needs all his speed and cunning to save his herd from capture by man. In a desperate chase through the mountains, it seems there is no longer anywhere for him to run to...

A few more books from my haul today.
These ones are mostly for my kids but I'm going to be reading some of them also. I'm pretty stoked to find 3 Judy Blume books today to add to our small collection at home. Perfect for my almost 12 yr old.
A couple of John Marsden books as I'm currently reading So Much To Tell You.
I am David and Goodnight Mister Tom seem like intriguing stories.
Andy Griffiths, you cant go wrong with primary school aged kids 😉

Ruthiella Judy Blume ❤️ 3y
PurpleTulipGirl I‘m a reading buddy for my friend‘s almost 9-year old and I can‘t wait to start Judy Blume with her. 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @PurpleTulipGirl oh cool! I hope you enjoy them together. I have an 8 year old so thanks for the suggestion. I might veer her towards a younger reader Blume book this year. We just have so many on the go at the moment! 3y

Curiouser_and_curiouser @Ruthiella yes, for sure. I remember. So good huh! I'm actually impressed with our school who stock these in the kids class libraries. Love that. My girls teacher read TOAFGN and Superfudge to her class in grade 3 or 4. 3y
tpixie Great book haul! 📚 3y
Curiouser_and_curiouser @tpixie thank you :) I'm loving looking at them, but they gotta wait their turn 😁 3y
tpixie @PurpleTulipGirl oh! I love this idea! 3y
tpixie @Curiouser_and_curiouser when Are you there God it‘s me Margaret? came out my school library kept it behind the library‘s desk. I was in six grade. ( yikes I‘m 60 yo now!) We had to have permission from our parents to read the book. Luckily my mother signed the consent form!! 3y
tpixie @Curiouser_and_curiouser with three of my kids I helped read holes allowed. They were reading it so I just every once read some parts aloud. Despite doing that three different times, when I went to the movie, there was a whole section I had not read about and was surprised! It was the storyline about Kate Barlow. 😂 3y

"But it was from that day on that a legend began to grow up about the cream brumby, cunning as a fox. Stockmen talked of him round their summer campfires, or sung songs about him as they rode around a restless mob of cattle at night, and the cattle told the brumbies, so that they too knew, all over the mountains, the tales of the wild cream brumby."

Just been reminiscing about the ancient past when I was 10 years old and pony mad. Totally obsessed. I read every pony book my school and local library could offer. 3 times. A week. At least.

This one was a particular favourite. I managed to get my own copy (this exact one) at a charity shop and I still have it ....

....though I suspect that by the time my girl is the right age to read it it might have fallen apart with old age!

lucylovestoread I loved this book as a child as well. I had to repeatedly ask my mother how to pronounce Thowra , it just wouldn't stick in my head! 6y
CarolynM This series was a big favourite of mine too. Apart from all the lovely horses I remember it as having wonderful descriptions of the high country. @lucyinedinburgh I had trouble with the pronunciations too🙂 6y
