When Juliet Porter's mother dies, she leaves Juliet some old letters and a photograph which shatter all her previously-held beliefs. They show that her real father was an American bomber pilot in the second world war, some forty years before, and that he had met her mother while serving in England. Armed only with this photo, Juliet sets out to trace her real father, and eventually finds the airfield where he served. In 1943, Juliet's mother Daisy is in the WAAF and stationed at the airfield which is taken over by the American airmen at a moment's notice. She falls in love with a bomber pilot who is then posted missing, presumed dead; pregnant and grieving, she marries a long-term admirer only to discover, at the end of the war, that her pilot had survived...

Loved this book & read it in a day. Juliet finds out on her mother‘s death that her real father was an American Airman. This is their story & Juliet‘s journey to find out about her father. I always enjoy Margaret Mayhew books & loved the telling of this story that kept me wanting to read on & could feel the anguish coming off the page from Juliet. A mixture of all emotions through this book. Totally recommend it if you like these style of books.

Starting this #NetGalley book by Margaret Mayhew. A woman‘s mother dies in 1991 and she is left a letter saying her father isn‘t who she thinks it is, and in fact was a US Airman in the war years. This tells their story and the woman‘s hunt to find out the truth. Usually love Margaret mayhew books with romance and history thrown in. Thoroughly recommend The Boat Girls. #jubilantjuly
