Angelica's Smile
Angelica's Smile | Andrea Camilleri
10 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
The seventeenth installment of the beloved New York Times bestselling series that boasts more than 600,000 books in print The last four books in Andrea Camilleris Inspector Montalbano series have leapfrogged their way up the New York Times bestseller list, perfectly positioning Angelicas Smile to ascend to even greater heights. A rash of burglaries has got Inspector Salvo Montalbano stumped. The criminals are so brazen that their leader, the anonymous Mr. Z, starts sending the Sicilian inspector menacing letters. Among those burgled is the young and beautiful Angelica Cosulich, who reminds the inspector of the love-interest in Ludovico Ariostos chivalric romance, Orlando Furioso. Besotted by Angelicas charms, Montalbano imagines himself back in the medieval world of jousts and battles. But when one of the burglars turns up dead, Montalbano must snap out of his fantasy and unmask his challenger.

To be fair, Montalbano #smiles very rarely, but the book has smile in the title! 😉

Playing catch-up.

Inspector Montalbano and the motley crew around him always make me smile, especially Catarella. This seemed the ideal book in the series to tag for the #Smile theme.

Andrew65 @myellenbee They are great, shame he is no longer with us. @Crazeedi (edited) 5y
myellenbee @Crazeedi Aw, I didn't realize he had passed. That's too bad but he left a lot of good work behind. Have you ever seen the Italian tv series based on his books? Its pretty good if you dont mind captions.@myellenbee 5y
Andrew65 @myellenbee Yes, a number of them seem to be available on YouTube. He only died in July but think still one or two more to be published. 5y
myellenbee Thanks 5y
Crazeedi @myellenbee there is a streaming service that has the series, I plan to subscribe and watch at some point, its like 5.99 /month, I'm glad you're with Andrew and me on out love affair with these books. @Andrew65 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I'm not sure if the shows are available on youtube, I've looked, theres lots of clips, many in Italian only, but they've wet my appetite to get the streaming service to watch them. If you've found a whole show, let me know!! 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi You May well be right, the only full ones I can see are in Its.ian. May need to brush up. Si 😂 I can get 34 episodes on the BBC Iplayer but don‘t think people outside UK will be able to watch these. 5y

Book 17 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Well planned burglaries are at the heart of this story. And Salvo quotes a book in his mind when he meets Angelica.
This is the last audiobook from the library I can borrow. I have recommended the rest of them so I hope the library gets, cause I love listening to these. I have to find the rest of this series! I also found out it's an Italian series (with subtitles), so I'm going to figure a way to stream. I ❤❤ Salvo and the books.

Crazeedi @Andrew65 thank you Andrew! How funny is this, I've been on youtube looking at every clip I can find, even the ones that dont have subtitles, lol, and I dont even speak Italian! I love the series already. I found the channel that has, so I'm going to be binge watching while we're on vacation this week! You gave me such joy with these stories I cant thank you enough 5y
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I found the rest of the series as books online, I'm going to order them too. I reallly enjoyed them as audiobooks, but I'm thinking I may want to get the ones I've read as physical books to reread. 5y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi YouTube has its uses. It is an excellent series. Glad you enjoyed them so much. 5y

Montalbano gets in too deep in this entry into the Inspector Montalbano Series. The events are based around some rather strange burglaries and the person who is beyond them writes to Montalbano and taunts them. Then a woman cones onto the scene and Montalbano loses his head, which ultimately leaves him considering retirement. The usual quirky novel, with a great group of characters. These move along at pace and are thoroughly recommended.

I read all the then published Montalbano series in a rush a few years ago then have never quite got around to the new ones until now. It is great to be back in Sicily and back in the Inspector's company. Four more and I'm up to date again.
