Solar Plexus
Solar Plexus: A Baku Saga in Four Parts | Rustam Ibragimbekov
1 post | 1 read
Spanning three generations and stretching from the 1940s to the 1990s, the four distinct parts that make up Solar Plexus intertwine to tell the tale of a group of friends who grew-up around the same courtyard in Baku. Each section is told from a different perspective as the friends passions, deceits, rivalries and disappointments play out against the shifting turmoil of those decades: from the Great Patriotic War and Stalins Purges, to the industrial institutes and Russification of the 50s and 60s, through to the struggle for independence and violence of the early 90s.

Mehso-so

Solar Plexus is a novel comprised of 4 novellas/short stories that interlink, following a group of men in Baku, #Azerbaijan. The writing is good, but the storylines weren‘t terribly engaging and the second one was quite confusing. Sadly, I can‘t recommend it and probably would have bailed if not for #ReadingEurope2020. But then, I wouldn‘t have picked it up if not for the challenge. 🤷🏼‍♀️

BarbaraBB Too bad it disappointed! My choice for Azerbaijan was one of my favorites in the challenge! 4y
Librarybelle Good to stick with it! I love seeing what everyone discovers, especially for those countries that it is a lot harder to find books set in or by authors from the countries. 4y
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB That‘s great! I‘ve definitely read some amazing books for this challenge I would not have read otherwise. 4y
Hooked_on_books @Librarybelle Yes, that‘s such a great part! And it has spurred me to look for books in different ways! It‘s good for creativity. 🤓 4y
