Peak: The New Science of Athletic Performance That is Revolutionizing Sports | Marc Bubbs
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
"There is a new revolution happening in sports as more and more athletes are basing their success on this game-changing combination: health, nutrition, training, recovery, and mindset. Unfortunately, the evidence-based techniques that the expert PhDs, academic institutions, and professional performance staffs follow can be in stark contrast to what many athletes actually practice. When combined with the noise of social media, old-school traditions, and bro-science, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction. Peak is a groundbreaking book exploring the fundamentals of high performance (not the fads), the importance of consistency (not extreme effort), and the value of patience (not rapid transformation). Dr. Marc Bubbs makes deep science easy to understand, and with information from leading experts who are influencing the top performers in sports on how to achieve world-class success, he lays out the record-breaking feats of athleticism and strategies that are rooted in this personalized approach.Dr. Bubbs expertly brings together the worlds of health, nutrition, and exercise and synthesizes the salient science into actionable guidance. I have continued reading this book and it has moved more into what foods you should be eating instead of what the foods do in your body. The most interesting thing that I have taken away from this book so far is that most competitive athletes are not eating enough carbs so they are not training optimally. It has also broken down what supplements do in the human body.

Hudson wells It covers why taking a protein supplement may be beneficial, and what creatine does in terms of muscular development. I would classify this book as more of a report than a story, that means it must be in 3rd person since there are no characters. This book is nonfiction meaning that it is based on real research that he has found from varying sources. If you like books that can help you beat the competition in sports, you will like this book. 3y
MissYaremcio Great work Hudson! I feel like if I read this book I would have to take notes while I read! 6/6 3y

This book shares so much valuable information about nutrition and recovery. I am halfway into the book but I have already taken away so much valuable information about the bacteria in the gut and how it changes and responds to what you eat. This book helps with general health, sleep guidelines, recovery, and nutrition. (continued in comments)

Hudson wells This book highlights the overlooked sides of health. I enjoy books that involve sports performance or improvements in strength. This book was perfect for me because I knew a lot about exercising but not a lot about nutrition. I would recommend this book to anybody trying to improve their athletic ability. 4y
MissYaremcio Well done Hudson! I would have liked a little bit more description as to the theme but as it is a fiction novel I recognize that it can be difficult to do so but you did a great job at identifying it! 5/6 4y
