If You Were Here
If You Were Here: A Novel of Suspense | Alafair Burke
8 posts | 15 read | 10 to read
If You Were Here is a thrilling novel of suspense from Alafair Burke, the author Dennis Lehane calls “one of the finest young crime writers working today.” Manhattan journalist McKenna Jordan is chasing the story of an unidentified woman who heroically pulled a teenaged boy from the subway tracks. When she locates a video that captures part of the incident, she thinks she has an edge on the competition scrambling to identify the mystery heroine, but is shocked to discover that the woman in the video bears a strong resemblance to Susan Hauptmann, a close friend who disappeared without a trace a decade earlier. What would have been a short-lived metro story sends McKenna on a dangerous search for the missing woman—a search that will force her to unearth long-buried truths much closer to home…

McKenna‘s best friend disappeared about 10 years ago as McKenna‘s life as a prosecutor began to fall apart. She‘s now a news woman and she could swear the mysterious woman caught in a video in her story looks like/is her best friend. As she pursues this, matters from the case that lost her job also come up.

This was "okay." It took me longer to read than I had hoped. I didn't really connect with any of the characters, and it wasn't as suspenseful as I expected.

Day 8 of #riotgrams features #blackhistory. I teach art in an elementary school. I pulled some of the books that I have in my class library. One of them is about Dave the Potter. It is a beautiful book about a slave who wrote poetry on the pots he made. The book is worth checking out. #davethepotter #labancarrickhill #bryancollier

Day 7 #riotgrams. #mylocallibrary is just a few minutes away from my house which makes it really convenient to go. It's a great building, inside and out.

RadicalReader @rsmbcol what a giant building would not mind checking out from that library at all 8y
